 And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

 He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou?

 And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.

And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.

 But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?

 And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.³² And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.

 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,

 And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.

³⁵ And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the innkeeper, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.

 Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?

 And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.

In this story there are three characters.

I The robbed and beaten victim

2. The jewish traveler that ordered his life by the Biblical law.

3 The unlawful Samaritan .

The Jewish man was perfectly acceptable, lawful and accepted member of Jerusalem society.

The Samaritan traveler was in the eyes of the Jews  the basest most unlawful person existing in the Jewish man’s world

The Lawful traveler when he saw the injured man lying beside the road may well of felt compassion for the injured man as he  decided the law kept him from stopping to help.

The Samaritan man who had no commitment to the law stopped and gave first aid for the man’s wounds used wine and oil on the wounds. Wine and oil  are expensive items. Then he helped the man to the nearest inn and paid for the innkeeper to house and help the man to give him a good long time for the injured man to rest and recover. It was also good behavior of the innkeeper to offer credit to the Good Samaritan.

For his good deeds the law ignoring man has been known as “The Good Samaritan” every day including this one for 2000 years. The other man has only been shamed for his failure to help for 2000 years.

This Bible story was in response to the question “Who is my neighbor” asked by a man conversing with Jesus. He asked that question to escape the command “Love your neighbor as yourself”. I ask in turn who is our neighbor in this country that we are commanded to love? We are to love the wounded children and their parents that have been separated at the our southern border.
